After months of saying “Oh, I can’t wait to see that” after watching the trailer, A Star Is Born finally came out today and reviews have been glowing.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s newest film is the latest in a string of amazing Hollywood musicals that capture our hearts and have us rushing to download the soundtrack while the credits are still rolling.
We’ve put together a few of our favourites - check them out below and let us know if we’ve missed any!
The Greatest Showman
Hugh Jackman’s caper about the origins of P.T. Barnum had us wanting to run away with the circus.
Zac Efron stars alongside our Aussie leading man, no stranger to musicals himself (anyone else watch High School Musical as a guilty pleasure??).
With dreamy dance sequences, perfect harmonies and a whole lotta showmanship, The Greatest Showman is an instant classic that everyone in the family will love.
Dancing Queen is one of those iconic tracks that everyone loves to dance to, no matter the occasion. Cher’s version is currently #4 on the ARIA charts!
So, it makes sense that ABBA’s music would make the perfect soundtrack to an entire musical!
The story of one girl’s quest to find her father is famous for the ‘dancing in the aisles’ that became an iconic part of every screening. Not to mention the combination of ABBA, the Greek islands, and Meryl Streep is a match made in heaven!
We were graced with a sequel earlier in 2018, and with new ABBA music on the way it seems like future sequels may be a possibility.
Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppet gang were reintroduced to a new generation of audiences when they were given the musical treatment.
Jason Segel of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ fame not only starred in the film, but co-wrote the script as well - meaning there were just as many jokes for parents as there were for the kids.
The story of The Muppets getting back together to save their old studios hit all the right notes and proved that the adorable puppets were here to stay.
La La Land
Forever known as ‘that movie that didn’t win the Oscar,’ La La Land’s greatness was somewhat overshadowed by its Oscar ceremony controversy.
From director Damien Chazelle, La La Land was all about big dreams and the lengths we go to chase them.
Its soundtrack - by the same duo behind The Greatest Showman - is the perfect balance of modern music and classic showtunes. Oh, and did we mention Ryan Gosling?
Ryan at his best opposite Emma Stone round out the reasons why we love this movie. Ryan Gosling and Damien Chazelle have teamed up again for First Man, also now showing - although there is a disappointing lack of singing in this space flick.
